Kansas City, Mo.— The MRIGlobal Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Thomas M. Sack, Ph.D., as interim President and Chief Executive Officer for MRIGlobal. The appointment comes as Michael F. Helmstetter, Ph.D., announced that he has resigned from his role as President, CEO, and Director.
"On behalf of the entire Board of Directors and Board of Trustees, I want to thank Michael for his 14 years of service to the MRIGlobal organization and our clients," said William (Bill) A. Hall, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees. "Michael's accomplishments during his leadership tenure have made a lasting impact on the organization and, through his involvement in civic and business groups, in the region's growing life sciences community."
Sack serves as MRIGlobal's Senior Vice President and Director of Technical Operations, and has been with the organization in numerous leadership roles for more than 27 years. He will continue to be responsible for MRIGlobal's research operations, directing more than 600 staff members working on projects in national security and defense, life sciences, energy, and food and agriculture.
He will also continue to serve on the Board for the Alliance for Sustainable Energy LLC, which manages and operates the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Sack joined MRIGlobal in 1985 as an analytical chemist and has led a variety of programs, most notably a series of programs that have grown into MRIGlobal's largest business area. He served as the Director of the Chemical Sciences Division from 1999 until his promotion to Regional Vice President and Director of Midwest Operations in 2006.
"The Board of Directors is very confident in Tom's ability to lead the organization on an interim basis," said Hall. "We know that Tom and the other members of the senior management team will keep MRIGlobal headed in a positive direction. The Board of Directors believes strongly there is a great foundation of success and positive momentum."
Hall noted that Sack will serve as interim CEO while the Board conducts a national executive search for a permanent replacement.
Helmstetter joined MRIGlobal in 1999 as Florida Division Director. Over the next 14 years, he was part of a team that led much of MRIGlobal's growth. He was appointed President and CEO in 2009, and established a five-year strategic plan that included refining management of projects and positioning MRIGlobal as a prime contractor.
"I am very proud of what MRIGlobal has achieved during my tenure as President and CEO, and I am confident the company is on a strong platform with its market leadership and brand presence to succeed," Helmstetter said. "I want to thank the Board, and especially Chairman Mr. Bill Hall, the staff of MRIGlobal, and our customers for making my time at MRIGlobal so personally and professionally rewarding."
